  • Position Title: Document Digitizer

    Job Summary:
    The Document Digitizer role involves working through three key stages of the digitization process: preparation, scanning, and verification. New Document Digitizers will start in document preparation, where they will organize and ready physical documents for scanning. Over time, employees will be trained to operate scanning equipment and software, and eventually to verify the accuracy and quality of the scanned documents.

    Key Responsibilities:

    Document Preparation:

    • Begin by removing non-paper items such as staples, clips, and sticky notes.

    • Organize pages by size and batch documents for efficient scanning.

    • Ensure all documents are properly aligned and ready for the next stage.

    • Master preparation procedures before advancing to scanning responsibilities.

    Scanning:

    • Once trained, set up and operate scanning equipment and software.

    • Load and scan document batches, ensuring no missed pages or errors.

    • Reassemble scanned batches and prepare them for verification.

    Verification:

    • Inspect scanned images for clarity, correctness, and order.

    • Make adjustments, such as rescanning or rotating pages, as needed.

    • Ensure physical documents match their digital counterparts before finalizing.

    Qualifications:

    • Basic computer skills; familiarity with scanning equipment is a plus but not required.

    • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.

    • Ability to follow detailed instructions and work independently.

    • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage document batches efficiently.

    • Basic communication and teamwork skills.

    • Ability to meet deadlines and handle repetitive tasks with consistency.

    Background Check & Enhanced Security Clearance:

    Due to the sensitive nature of the information handled in this role, all candidates must pass a thorough background check, including an enhanced security clearance, before employment.

    • All candidates must pass a 2 stage comprehensive background check as part of the hiring process.

    • This includes a background check conducted by Technology North and an enhanced security check carried out by the Edmonton Police Service, which requires detailed personal information, as well as information about close contacts and family members.

    • Employment is contingent upon passing both the background check and enhanced security clearance.

    Work Environment:

    • This is an on-site role at Technology North’s Edmonton location.

    • The job involves periods of standing and sitting, as well as handling physical documents.

    • Employees must be comfortable working in a quiet, focused environment.

  • Position Title: Redactor
    Location: TBD
    Department: Digital Services: Redaction
    Reports To: Job Coach
    Type: Part-Time/Casual
    Hourly Rate: $16.50

    Job Summary:
    The Redactor role involves reviewing video footage and audio recordings from body-worn cameras worn by police officers, identifying and redacting sensitive information. Redactors use video editing software to blur areas where sensitive information is displayed, following specific guidelines set by the police agency supplying the footage. Footage will depict simple events such as traffic stops, statements, and complaints.

    Due to the sensitive nature of the information handled in this role, all candidates must pass a thorough background check, including a security clearance, before employment.

    Key Responsibilities:

    Video Redaction:

    • Review body-worn camera footage for sensitive information.

    • Apply masks using video editing software to blur or redact sensitive areas as per agency guidelines.

    • Ensure redactions cover specified items completely while maintaining video clarity.

    • Review redacted footage before final submission to verify that redactions are correctly applied, making adjustments as required.

    Adherence to Guidelines:

    • Follow all outlined steps and agency-specific guidelines for redaction.

    • Utilize redaction tools, review marker reports, and complete video extraction processes accurately.

    Training & Development:

    • Successful candidates will undergo multiple training sessions and must meet performance benchmarks before being assigned to a redaction project.

    • Complete all required training sessions to learn redaction techniques and software usage.

    • Participate in periodic, additional training sessions as required.

    Qualifications and Requirements:

    • Basic computer skills; familiarity with video editing software is a plus but not required.

    • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy

    • Ability to follow detailed instructions, adhere to specific processes, and work independently.

    • Ability to meet deadlines with guidance and handle repetitive tasks with consistency.

    • Strong problem solving skills to analyze footage methodically.

    • Basic communication and teamwork skills.

    Mobile Device:

    • A personal mobile device that meets the following criteria:

      • Updated software version.

      • Security features such as fingerprint or facial recognition enabled.

      • Internet access via mobile data or WiFi.

      • Cellular connectivity for receiving text messages.

    Background Check & Enhanced Security Clearance:

    • All candidates must pass a 2 stage comprehensive background check as part of the hiring process.

    • This includes a background check conducted by Technology North and an enhanced security check carried out by the police service, which requires detailed personal information, as well as information about close contacts and family members.

    • Employment is contingent upon passing both the background check and enhanced security clearance.

    Work Environment:

    • Work location will vary and may include on-site work at Technology North’s Edmonton location and/or on-site work at a police facility.

    • The job involves periods of sitting at a computer desk wearing headphones, viewing and analyzing various types of body worn camera footage.

    • Employees must be comfortable working in a quiet, focused environment.
